Lady Tigers Keep On Keepin’ On

The Mansfield Lady Tigers have had a pretty spectacular week in softball. Over the past weekend, the girls competed in the Tyson Classic at Pottsville. Mansfield ran the show in both of their games, conquering the win 18-10 against Clinton and blowing Pottsville JV out of the water 15-1.

Coach, Kent Elmore, further explains the Lady Tigers run in the Classic, “We hit the ball well and were able to score a lot of runs. Defensively we still have to stop having self-created errors. It’s been tough to get better defensively because of the limited outside practices.”

On Tuesday night, Mansfield stayed home for a non-conference game against the Hackett Hornets. Coaches, players, and fans from both sides knew it was going to be a rough one to begin with because apparently, the wind was trying to set a new record in speed and strength. With the face, hands, and feet numbing cold to the side, Hackett and Mansfield got things moving with a 5-5 tied ballgame in the seventh inning.

Unfortunately, the Lady Tigers finished their eight-inning game barring a loss of 9-5. “Mansfield dropped a tough one last night against Hackett,” said Coach Elmore. “The girls did a great job of not quitting and forcing extra innings! We stranded too many runners to come out on top. The Lady Tigers are getting better day by day!”

Better at running than a carton of egg whites was Kylie Eveld, Maggie Strunk, Abbi Morgan, Amber Elmore, and Hailey Walker who all added one run apiece. Hitting harder than Mike Tyson on a good night, was Kylie Eveld and Rylea Weaver with two hits each. And combining with four hits was Kyli Davidson, Shyann McDowell, Abbi Morgan, and Amber Elmore.

One thing is for sure. If you live in a glass house, you do not want to make Lady Tigers pitcher, Caroline Nicodemus, mad. Earning herself 115 pitches, Caroline struck out six players and had 88 strikes thrown.
