Waldron School Board Meets

The regular monthly meeting of the Waldron School Board was held in the Central Office Building Monday, September 14, 2020, at 6:30 p.m. Board members present were Tammye Sherrill, Clay Woodall, Mac Davis and Angela Hunsucker. School Board member Christi Johnston was not present. Others present were Superintendent Daniel Fielding, Misty Owens, Kim Solomon, Ryan Walker, Toni Dozier, Josh Brown, Kristi Sigman, Chris Lipham and Keith Brigance.

President Sherrill called the meeting to order at 6:31 p.m. Davis began the meeting with a word of prayer, and Hunsucker led the Pledge of Allegiance.

A motion was made by Davis and seconded by Woodall to approve the Consent Agenda items: A) Approval of the August 3rd and August 17th Minutes; B) Approve Financial Reports and Expenditures; C) Approve Purchase Order for Edgenuity; D) Approve Purchase Order for Davis Playgrounds; E) Approve Invoice for Guy Fenter Education Service Cooperative; E) Approve 2020-21 ADE Statement of Assurances. Motion carried 4-0.

A motion was made by Hunsucker and seconded by Woodall to approve the revised 2020-21 School Calendar. Motion carried 4-0.

A motion was made by Woodall and seconded by Davis to approve the Contract Disclosure Form on Cody Parks. Motion carried 4-0.

Ryan Walker, Elementary Principal, reported to the board that the kids have adapted very well to wearing masks and other precautions put in place. Walker also stated that the student numbers are down at ABC due to the pandemic, however some students that initially signed up for remote learning are slowly coming back to the on-site option for learning in all three buildings. Chris Lipham, Middle School Principal, reported that he has reiterated to his staff the importance of wearing masks and continuing the state mandated precautions in place. Lipham also stated that the bus drivers have done exceptionally well with the new guidelines they have been given. Kim Solomon, High School Principal, as well as Coach Brown, High School Assistance Principal, reported on all the accomplishments of all of the sports teams and that once again this year’s games will be livestreamed. Homecoming festivities will look different this year, there will not be a parade, however they will be allowed to have the crowning ceremony on the field.

Superintendent Fielding reported to the board that he is extremely proud of the way the administrators and teachers came together, planned and came up with solutions, put those in place, which in turn created a smooth first few weeks of school. Fielding also planned the Annual Budget Meeting with the board members and set that date for Monday, September 21st, at 4:30 p.m.

The board went into executive session at 7 p.m., and returned at 7:21 p.m. A motion was made by Woodall and seconded by Hunsucker to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried 4-0, and the meeting adjourned at 7:21 p.m.
