Charlotte Duncan (above image above), New Activity Assistant, shows resident how to do the “rocket toss”
Residents of Waldron Nursing Center, Alex and myself, are proud to welcome our new Activity Assistant, Charolette Duncan, who started work this week. She arrives with lots of ideas to contribute to the Activity program along with her compassion for the residents and  assisting Alex with keeping everyone busy. Scheduled events this past week was Worship services with Mike Shaddon, Pat Ray Biggs, Sunday singing with Rick Byce, Temple Baptist group on Monday night, and tons of “toe tapping” Blue Grass singing & playing with the “Sparks” Boys on Tuesday night. The residents reported it was just wonderful and they were all looking forward to Roger and the group coming back in a few weeks. They also reported that a  large crowd of residents and visitors attended. The “Over the hill” gang was also on hand this past Tuesday afternoon to bring some more of their wonderful “old time” songs. These kind of songs are always a favorite of everyone. Bingo was on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoon with our faithful Volunteers, Doyle Wayne Dickens & Pat Morales,  coming to assist with the games. Pat  is also very helpful in lending a hand to  Alex and Charolette  as they show residents all the steps in making the craft projects. You can often hear joyful laughter as each resident works on whatever their project for the week is, making funny bugs using Styrofoam balls with colorful pipe cleaners and big googly eyes was a big hit. Our Special activities of “Rocket Toss” & “Races” was great fun for everyone. Residents were competing against each other in the wheelchair races by the roll of the dice to decide how far along the track they got to go.
Other events included the monthly Birthday Party honoring Dorothy Ridenhour, Paulette Boyce, Charlene Simmons, Edward Doak, Jimmy Mize, Johna Rich, Martha Watkins, Fern Yandell and Joyce Thompson. The Dietary department made a delicious cake and served it with ice cold punch. Nail painting with Alex and Charolette Duncan.  The residents report that Alex is really getting a fancy touch with the nail designs. Movies with popcorn, lots of Trivia games, batter ball and Red Hat meeting just to name some of the things keeping everyone busy. The passing of magazines and word search puzzles each morning continues to be a big hit. “Thanks” to all who have been bringing the great magazines by.
Congratulations goes out to two of our most deserving employees for being elected by popular vote as “employee of the month”, Mitch Freeman of the Maintenance Department and Amber LeMaster from Housekeeping Department, along with their plaques they received $100. in cash. We are very fortunate to have both of these employees on our team.

Mitchell Freeman, shows off plaque, naming him as “employee of the month.”

Amber LeMaster, has a bright smile as she finds out she was voted “employee of the month”.

In closing I was very sad to hear of the passing of my long term friend Helen Daniels of North Little Rock. Helen was a niece of our past resident Martha Fuller, who was at the old Pinewood Nursing Home. Some in our community might still remember Martha as she was quiet the lady and loved by all who knew her.  I had kept in contact with Helen over the years. In our positions here at the Nursing Center many of us establish lasting friendships with our resident families. I am also still sending out e-mail photos to our family members of their loved ones doing the many different activities. All you have to do is drop your e-mail address off to me at the Activity Department and I’ll put you on my  E- list.
