“Finally,” was a common word among Waldron High School golfers Tuesday, August 21st, as they participated in their first match of the year after having the previous two canceled due to weather.
At Waldron Country Club, against areas teams from Mansfield, Booneville, Charleston, and Northside, the Bulldogs came out victorious.
Senior Madison Patrick and Rena Owens, along with Junior Kaylin Watson, combined to shoot a score of 171 taking first place. Coach Atchley added, “The girls did well for their first match of the year, they are glad to get back out on the course and play and hope to cut several strokes off each of their scores as the season goes on.”
The boys were lead in scoring by Sophomore Jaden Hutchens, Freshman Drew Owens, and Senior Brody Jones with a first place score of 143. “We are still young and figuring out our strengths, but I am proud of all the guys and know that they will continue to work on their game,” stated Coach Atchley.
The Bulldogs next match is Monday, August 27th at Galla Creek Country Club in Pottsville, before returning to Waldron for their final home match on August 28th.
