To Be The Man, You Gotta Beat The Man

By Megan Hecox

This is not just another Cinderella story. The Mansfield Tigers are for real. They are here to stay. They are here to fight. And they are here to win. The Charleston Tigers are headed to Mansfield to take on the Red Tigers in what is sure to be an epic battle. Mansfield Head Coach Craig Bentley gives insight on Friday’s football game. “We have a great opportunity Friday night. It’s a big game for both teams. It has been a long time since a Charleston vs Mansfield game has been this important. They are well coached and rich in tradition. We are looking forward to the challenge.”

The Mansfield football program has worked hard to be where they are at. Their goal now is to maintain it throughout the year and for many years to come. Coach Bentley says “If we can maintain it, then hopefully on down the road people look at the Mansfield football program as one that is “tradition-rich.” It is not easy. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication from players, coaches, administrators, school board members, parents, and the community. We are excited about the path that we are on.”

On Friday, October 5th, the Charleston Tigers are coming to Mansfield Tiger Stadium. The game will kick off at 7 pm. The Sr High Cheerleaders will have a special halftime performance with the Jr High squad and the Tiger Tots. The cheerleaders are asking that the community join them in a “Pink Out” by wearing pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month. Coach Bentley is hoping to have another BIG crowd Friday for their biggest game of the year. He says “seeing so many Red Tiger fans at our home games this year has been phenomenal and it has been a big boost to the players.”

In the words of Ric Flair (with added Bentley dialog) “To be the man, you have to beat the man. And Charleston has been the man in our conference for a long time.” But if you were to ask the Mansfield community. The Red Tigers are going to, Wooooo, beat the man!
