This was a battle of all battles. A test of dominance. Strength. Drive. The Mansfield Tigers have all of that and then some. But like everything, there can only be one. The 6-0 Tigers put their blood, sweat, and tears into their game last night against the 6-0 Booneville Bearcats but lost 55-6. Mansfield didn’t lose because they didn’t want it as bad. They didn’t lose because they were weaker. Or tired. Or just didn’t want to play. The Tigers played with more heart and selflessness than ever before. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t meant to be.
In the first quarter of the game, Mansfield hit the field with a shear force of speed as they cut through the Bearcat Defense like butter. Layton Howard made a dynamic 40-yard sprint down the field and on the very next play, caught a pass from Ethan Stovall for a running touchdown. The extra point was no good so the score stood at 6-0. Tiger fans roared in the stands as their Tigers had the states #1 3A team shaking their heads wondering what happened. But the Bearcats didn’t stay down for long as they took over the game from that point on showing why they’re listed as the states #1 3A team. The Tigers had a couple of missed tackles defensively and a few miscues on offense in the game, but that was all Booneville needed to capitalize on.
The Tigers fell yes, but they will learn from their mistakes and put Friday’s game behind them. They played a great team and lost, but Mansfield has great Coaches who will work tirelessly to teach the players from that loss and players who have entirely too much heart and determination to let losing one game weigh them down. Mansfield Tiger football has turned a page for the better. So let the doubters doubt and the haters hate because they lost one game. The Coaches can feel it. The players can feel it. The fans can feel it. Ladies and Gentlemen, Tiger Nation is back.
