You may have noticed a lot of teal-colored ribbons lately. Women were walking on both sides of the Lavaca Main Street, tying a wide teal ribbon on light poles, street signs, and park benches. They are working to educate the public about ovarian cancer.
Did you know that a pap smear does NOT detect ovarian cancer? The is no conclusive early detection test for ovarian cancer which is why it is so important to know the signs and symptoms. About 21,000 women in the U. S. are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year. 14,000 will die from it.
September is National Ovarian Cancer Month. River Valley Ovarian Cancer Alliance is tying TEAL ribbons throughout the area to raise awareness and promote education about ovarian cancer.
