With the first week of conference play in the books, the Mansfield Sr High Lady Tigers are off to a great start. But don’t be fooled by the fact that the Sr Lady Tigers only have four seniors with the majority of the team sophomores. Because looks can be deceiving. On August 25, Mansfield hosted the Mulberry Lady Yellowjackets to a high-flying supercharged volleyball match. Mansfield took the 3-0 win with set scores of 25-2, 25-12, and 25-4. Out of the eight Varsity players who hit the court every match, the Sr Lady Tigers have four sophomores, three juniors, and one senior trying their hand at 2A domination.

The sky’s the limit for senior, Brooke Wright

The final tally on the night showed Natalie Allison with eight aces, three kills, and five assists. Madelen Jones earned seven assists and two aces. Captain Brooke Wright scored 18 aces and five kills. Skylynn Harris brought in five kills and two aces. Brooklyn Adams had 13 aces and three digs. And Haylee Helms with two digs and two aces. For their second match of the week, Mansfield hit the road to Eureka Springs with plans to bring down the Lady Highlanders castle. And in true Lady Tigers fashion, they did just that. Mansfield finished the night with sets of 25-8, 25-10, and 25-6 earning themselves yet another 3-0 win placing them 2-0 in conference play.

Natalie Allison had seven kills, nine assists, one block, and five digs Madelen Jones had six aces and 19 assists. Brooke Wright secured four aces, 10 kills, and two digs. Sadie Roberts obtained four kills and one block. Skylynn Harris bagged nine aces and five kills. Brooklyn Adams landed six aces, five kills, and seven digs. Kiara Thomas had four aces and 15 digs. And Haylee Helms finished with four digs.

“I was very proud of the effort and hustle the girls had during both of their first conference games this week,” expressed head coach, Kaylie Pyles. “All aspects of our gameplay have improved from last season, due to us focusing on individual skill work during the first part of summer. I’m excited to see what this next week will bring because each week we get better!” The Sr Lady Tigers are planning for a dogfight on August 31 at home as they take on the Waldron Lady Bulldogs at 4:00.
