The Mansfield Tigers wrapped up their two weeks of Spring football with a controlled scrimmage on May 25th at Tiger Stadium. A huge crowd of Tiger Football fans came out to support, and encourage both Jr., and Sr. High Football, and Cheerleader squads.
Mansfield Head Football Coach, and Co-Athletic Director Craig Bentley gives a recap on his thoughts about the Spring training, and looking into the 2017 season.
We had a great two weeks with a mix of good physical days, good mental days and good execution days. We aren’t where we want to be right now but we are getting there. Without a doubt, we are farther along at this point right now than we were last year. Morning practices and skill work have been conducted since January, so we really didn’t have to install a whole lot in these two weeks. Our focus was execution, seeing who fit where in our schemes and continued to work on our fundamentals on both offense and defense.
MHS Tiger Football got out of Spring training healthy, so we were excited about that. It was also nice to have our full staff for the full two weeks so we could get a dry run of the organization and structure of practice come fall. Really excited about where we are are this point.
We are very young, but we are better football players. We have had a great off season with kids putting on strength on their core lifts and gaining weight and muscle mass, eager to see that take its effects to the field. They are faster and stronger now than we were at any point last year. There is still a lot of ground to cover as far as growth and maturity, but we will get there. Our staff are directing these kids to be great young people in everything that they do, on the field or off. Our belief is if they can do that, it will pay dividends for our growth as a team, and community pride. Team culture is at the core of our emphasis, every day.
We head into Summer with and camp on June the 2nd at Lincoln and then a full slate of workouts, team camps and 7 on 7. Go Red Tigers!
The entire staff, and players truly appreciate all of the support. It means a lot to us all, as a team, as coaches, and our community.
We were Blessed to be able to provide Jaden James and his family a great opportunity that truly impacted us all. You can see the related story about Jaden James, HERE
Big props to the gentlemen who came down and participated in the “Living Legend” Flag Football game.
