The group of girl’s that make up the Mansfield volleyball travel team, Velocity, have been hard at work servin’ em up and slammin’ em down. The team is made up of Kaylee Ward, Kynslee Ward, SkyLynn Harris, Natalie Allison, Alyson Edwards, Brooklyn Adams, Alayna Turner, and Kinley Hanfelder.
The girls traveled to a volleyball tournament in Joplin MO on Jan 20th. After playing against multiple teams that day, Velocity walked away with a 2nd place finish in the Gold Bracket.
Velocity played their first match against SWMO and won 25-12, 25-12 and 25-11. Their second game against Team MVP was also victorious as they won 25-19, 25-17, and 25-18. The girls then started bracket play and faced Club Net. Velocity had a score of 25-18 and 25-15 putting them in the finals of the Gold Bracket where they took on the Spikers. Team Velocity dug in and gave it everything they had but ended falling short winning only one out of three sets.
This is the 4th year that most of these girls have been traveling together with this volleyball team and they continue to improve and grow every year. Leading the team in kills was SkyLynn Harris with 28 followed by Brooklyn Adams with 17 and Natalie Allison with 12. Digging up the ball in the backcourt and allowing their team to get some big plays were SkyLynn Harris with 28, Brooklyn Adams with 14 and Kinley Hanfelder with 12.
With an injury to Alyson Edwards in the second game, Kaylee Ward had some big shoes to fill but had no problem leading the team in blocks with 5 followed by SkyLynn Harris and Brooklyn Adams who each had 3. Natalie Allison was on fire behind the service line serving 18 aces for the day. Brooklyn Adams had 17 and Alyson Edwards had 7. Leading to all those kills were the assists coming from Natalie Alison who had 22 and Kynslee Ward with 13.
The girls look to continue to improve when they play this weekend Feb 2-3 at the Ft Smith Convention Center. Team Velocity will start pool play on Saturday at 3 p.m. Then on Sunday, the girls will compete in bracket play.
