Who doesn’t enjoy a good ol ground and pound scrimmage to get you in the mood for football season. That’s exactly what happened August 14th when the Mansfield Tigers Sr High Team took on the De Queen Leopards.
The Tigers, who are in a 3A school district, ferociously held their own against the Leopards, who are in a 5A school district. It was the perfect practice game for the Tigers to get an idea of what works and what is needing improvement before their first game against Hackett on August 23rd.
After a discouraging 2-8 season last year, Coach Bentley gave his opinion on how he thought the boys handled the scrimmage and what to expect in the upcoming season. “I was very pleased with the results of our scrimmage. We wanted to face a team that would give us a big challenge on both sides of the ball. Offensively we moved the ball well and had some explosive plays. Defensively I thought we were disciplined for the most part and played very physical. I thought we controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides and if we can continue to do that, then good things will follow. Some fatigue set in half way through but I was proud of how our kids fought and overcame those challenges and finished strong. Even though it was just a scrimmage, in all my time here, it is the best we have looked overall.”
