Mansfield and Hackett Ready for Small Town Throwdown

By Megan Hecox

The time has come. The football game fans have anxiously been waiting for is a day away. This Thursday, August 23rd the Mansfield Tigers are headed to Mills Field to take on the Hackett Hornets for the first time in almost a decade. The last time these old rivals faced off against each other on the gridiron, was in 2009 when the Tigers smashed the Hornets 41-7.

Fans can recall a time back in the day when Mansfield, Hackett, and Hartford were apart of the sports triangle. This meant that anytime these schools would play each other it would be a jubilant event. “It’ll be refreshing to go back to the excitement that was felt when these two teams played against one another” exclaims one Tigers fan.

Mansfield senior high head coach Craig Bentley says “Coming off of our scrimmage, we have had a good stretch of practice and preparation. Attitudes and effort have been great and the kids have really locked in. We know and understand what we have to do to be successful, now we just have to go out there and do it. Hackett is a well-coached team and their kids know how to win so that is our biggest challenge. This is a big game for our program.”

The Mansfield Senior High Tigers will face the Hackett Senior High Hornets on Thursday, August 23rd at 7:00 pm in Hackett.
