Little Johns Hand Hornets First Loss

It’s a tough week for the Hackett Hornets, and was even harder on the ride home last Friday night, after the Danville LIttle Johns gave the Hornets a 32-22 loss.

An optimistic, and humble Head Coach Lonnie Hester stated, “Anytime you have two unbeaten teams this late in the season, playing in a conference game, it makes for an exciting game. This was no exception!”

With both teams showing their offensive power, the Little Johns got on top in the first quarter with a 13-6 lead, leaving the Hackett offense with some work to do. Before halftime, Hackett scored another 8 points, still trailing Danville by 7. Third quarter was nothing but a copy of the second quarter showing the strength of each defensive front. The fourth quarter was all Danville with 6 points, and the Hornets unable to put any points on the board.

“We just have to regroup & stay focused” added Hester. Early game predictions had #3 ranked Danville blowing out the Hornets, but Hackett proved that they can play against anyone on both of the ball. “Our guys played hard & we had our chances. Danville just made a couple of adjustments that really hurt us. They are a very good -well coached team.”

Hackett has two conference games left (Lavaca & JC Westside), which are both away games. “We are just focused on those games & trying to get that 2nd seed for playoffs. We want to host another playoff game. It’s always great for our program & our town when are playing football after that 1st wk in November. …. we don’t want it to end!”

Heads up Hackett! Believing you can, is half the battle. Go Hornets!
