Lavaca Senior vs Faculty game.

The Lavaca High School posted the following yesterday. “Lavaca High School hosted their annual Senior versus Faculty game today. The faculty kept their tradition alive, winning the volleyball and basketball games. The seniors did an awesome job, and we’re going to miss their leadership next year! 💜💛”.

The trash talk was at a premium and I have learned that it has carried over even after the games have ended, at least for two of the competitors. Senior Jimmy Hall said that he wished he had stayed in basketball. He explained that he was able to frustrate head basketball coach Renner Reed on the court during the game. He said, “yeah, I actually blocked like 3 of his shots. Oh, and I spiked on him in the volleyball game as well. I should have stayed in basketball”. Of course coach Reed tells a little different version. When I caught up with him to ask about the annual event. He had this to say, “As always, the seniors come in over confident with a lot of smack talk and energy. We allow them to enjoy the game for awhile before our experience takes over. The game was a little closer than expected this year (we only won by 30), but down the stretch and into the last period the teachers started playing real Arrow basketball and put the game away. We will definitely miss these seniors and they were a great sports!” Senior Colby Clunn was not happy about the loss and stated “We’ll get them next year”. Which poses the question on whether he intends to be a senior again next year…hummm?

This is a fun time for both the seniors and the faculty. Trash talk aside, I think this event speaks volumes about the bonds that are created in a school that has teachers who really do care about the students. Good times at a great school.
