The Friends of the South Sebastian Regional Library hosted a Grand Opening to celebrate the new and expanded library branch in Lavaca. The January 15th festivities brought out patrons from all over the county to see the finished result of the work of so many.
Sara (Meredith) McCormick is the Lavaca librarian and was the hostess of the big night. There were games for kids, guessing jars for young and old alike, refreshments of many kinds all around the building. Within the first half-hour of the open house, more than 50 people had visited the improved building space. That number increased dramatically before the night was over.
Rene Myers, Scott-Sebastian Regional Library Library Director, was there with all smiles, She and all of us are so happy to see the library more than double in square footage. She is already discussing signage for the building to make it easier for patrons to locate. The library took the old offices of the Lavaca Police Department after they moved across the road into a brand new modern facility. The City of Lavaca has worked very hard to make this night possible. It’s a beautiful addition to the town.
Sara will be glad to greet you any Tuesday from 1-5pm or on Thursday from 8am-1pm. The library is located at 100 S Davis Street. Sara can be reached at (479) 674-4355
