If your kids are like mine, you may wonder if they will ever understand the value of saving money. Yes it’s a concern. Today’s society seems to spend money fast, and I do mean fast. My son recently won a $50 gift card to Walmart and decided that he needed to go to Walmart immediately. Why? In case there was a new light saber that he did not already have in his arsenal. Conversations about saving his money until he had given serious thought about a more non frivolous purchase items that he would enjoy longer than a week were lost on him completely.

However, today the Lavaca Middle School took steps to help teach the value of saving money. The 5th grade students took a field trip to the bank. LMS posted on facebook the following, “The 5th grade classes toured First National Bank and UAFS as part of the Dollars and Sense program. Throughout the year, students were taught lessons about saving and budgeting money by members of the Lavaca branch. Thank you First National Bank for investing in our students!” Hopefully these kids learned the lessons being taught and will become prudent with their money…..as for my kid, he just better make a ton of money.
