Hello everyone! In our lifetime, we travel many roads. On those roads, we meet all kinds of people. Some become friends, some foes, some more than friends, and some we claim as family.
Kaye Lynne (Black) Michael was one of those people that I claimed as family. My mom did marry her uncle, so I guess we were kin by marriage. She was fun to be around. She was always there when I needed her, and always just a phone call away if I needed a recipe, marital advice or just some fun laughs.
She always had the biggest Easter dinner and egg hunt the town had ever seen. Family and friends couldn’t wait for Easter afternoon to attend the big Easter egg hunt at Kaye Lynne and David Michaels. She worked very hard on this for months and it brought her such joy to see everyone and the good time being had.
She had several siblings: Buddy Black, Ronnie Black, Randy Black, Patsy Buckner, Carolyn Smith, Shirley Gillis, Beverly Bonds, Chris Clopton, Kevin Clopton, and Tracy Clopton.
Kevin Clopton hit me in the head with the end of a water hose when we were kids and I have never forgotten it. But that story is for another time. Kaye Lynne was an awesome cook and she enjoyed it. She has three children: Julie Thomas, Kasi Carter, and Joshua Riggins. They inherited her love for cooking and are all awesome cooks as well.
She used to tell funny stories about her childhood. She said that her brothers used to pay her a quarter not to sing. She would always say to her nieces ‘I want y’all to make sure you cry and carry on when I die and make a scene at the funeral.’
This is Kaye Lynn’s pasta salad recipe:
1 box Ditalini pasta
1 to 1 1/2 cups (your preference) of the following: celery, bell pepper, red or yellow pepper, red onion, sweet relish (small jar), and Miracle Whip 1/4 cup at a time to taste.
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper
1 tsp. Cavenders Greek Seasoning
Boil pasta until al dente (done but still firm), drain, rinse with cold water until pasta is cool and drain completely. Add seasonings to pasta and toss in a bowl and set aside. In a separate bowl, combine all chopped vegetables and relish and then mix thoroughly. Add vegetable mix to pasta and mix well. Add Miracle Whip 1/4 cup at a time to your preferred taste. Chill three hours and serve.
