The Mansfield Jr Tigers traveled to Waldron Tuesday night to take another shot at the Bulldogs. Both Tiger squads battled tooth and claw with Waldron with the Lady Tigers defeating the Lady Bulldogs 34-23 and the Jr Boys falling to Waldron 55-51 in yet another nail-biter.
The girls started their match-up with the Lady Tigers literally on fire. The girls were the definition “Cat Burglars” as they stole the ball from Waldron on multiple occasions. Mansfield’s defense was an immovable object holding the Lady Bulldogs to just 8 points in the 1st half while the Lady Tigers offense was reeling Waldron’s defense as they went into halftime with a 26-8 lead. Although the Lady Tigers had a rougher 2nd half, they were able to walk off the court with a 34-23 victory. Sadie Roberts lead the (5-6) Lady Tigers in scoring knocking out 15 points in the game with Natalie Allison scoring 12 points, and Skylynn Harris and Kynslee Ward combining for 7 points in the game.
The (6-5) Jr Tigers boys’ team have been known for thriller games throughout the season and last night was no different. For the second time this season, the Tigers and the Bulldogs put on a show that even NBA stars would be jealous of. The Tigers walked on the court full of confidence and even though they lost 55-51, they were able to walk off with their heads high. The Jr Tigers never gave up against the Bulldogs, playing a game of cat and mouse with the scoreboard until the bitter end. Ethan Pettus lead the Tigers with an astounding 22 points in the game. Tyler Escalante and Zayne Dugan both put up 9 points while Clint Stovall and Steven Perez combined for 11 points.
The Jr Tigers will get home court advantage against Elkins on Thursday, January 24 at 4 pm.
