Jr Tigers Captured By Pirates


The JV Tigers and the Jr High Tigers hosted the Cedarville Pirates for last nights basketball games. In true Mansfield fashion, the Tigers left fans on the edge of their seats holding their breath while frozen in time.

The JV girls squad was up first for the night. The Lady Tigers were flawless in the defense department securing 16 rebounds during their match. Holding Cedarville to only 10 points in the first half of the game, the Lady Tigers weren’t going to go down without a fight. The Lady Pirates were only able to add 7 more points to their score in the second half of the game with the final score reading 17-5 Cedarville.

The JV boys were up next. Matching Cedarville point for point, the boys kept their game fast-paced and lively. The most excitement of the game came at the end with .2 seconds left on the clock and the score reading 19-17 Tigers. With nothing to lose, Cedarville went for a 3 point shot and sank it ending the game 20-19 Pirates. Leading his team was Austin Carlton with 8 points. Logan Cravey brought in 4 points for his team. And making a combined 7 points was Braxton Byers, Greyson Baggett, and Drew Elmore.

The Jr Lady Tigers were the big winners of the night scoring a 30-28 victory over the Lady Pirates. Alyson Edwards, Sadie Roberts, Haylee Helms, and Natalie Allison all helped to put points on the board for the Lady Tigers. Defensively, the girls knocked out 17 rebounds during the game. The Lady Tigers upgraded their conference play record to 4-5.

The Jr Tigers ended the night with a close 35-30 loss against the Pirates. This brings the Tigers conference record to 5-4 for the season. The boys had a good game offensively. Zayne Dugan lead his team with 12 points, Ethan Pettus made 10, and Steven Perez added 8. The Tigers are looking to get back on track when they take on the Wolves at Lincoln this Friday, January 18 at 4 pm.
