The Mansfield Jr High Tigers brought in a win against the Lincoln Wolves with a final score of 41-34. This victory upgrades the Tigers to 6-4 in conference play. The Lady Tigers ended with a close loss of 45-35 against the Lady Wolves bringing their conference record to 4-6.
The Jr Tigers got into foul trouble early in the game which allowed their bench production the chance to step up. Austin Carlton gave the Tigers great bench minutes even hitting a three late in the game. Drew Elmore has been working hard in practice. He got his chance to show that off during the game grabbing 4 points for the Tigers. “The greatest improvement for this team so far this season is our learning of the game,” says boys’ Coach Kent Elmore. “We were so raw with knowing the game of basketball and they are steadily starting to figure out how to play as a team.”
The Lady Tigers had a rough night against the Lady Wolves. Girls’ Coach Erica McKay explains, “I felt like we were just going through the motions and never played with the energy I have seen in the last couple of games. As the season has progressed, the girls have started working very well together. A team can be filled with athletes that are individually talented but its all about how they work together and that’s what they are starting to understand. They are finding their strengths and putting them all together while still improving on the weaker areas. I fully expect us to go into District Tournament playing our absolute best basketball.” Alyson Edwards hit double digits with 16 points in the game while Skylynn Harris brought in 8. Combining for 11 points was Natalie Allison, Sadie Roberts, and Kynslee Ward.
The Jr High Tigers plan to smash the Waldron Bulldogs in their away rivalry game tonight January 21 at 4:30 pm.
