Hackett Hornets Are A Shot Above The Rest

By Megan Hecox

Looking back to the start of their season and now, the Hackett Hornets have started making great strides in their basketball skills. The Jr High and Sr High teams are becoming more unified and have seemed to have found a working balance. The Jr Lady Hornets played a close game against the Hector Wildcats last Tuesday but ended up with a 16-11 loss. Madeline Freeman was the top scorer for her team, bringing in 5 points.

The Sr High boys team won their game against the Hector Wildcats with a blowout ending score of 51-24. Dylan Kats lead his team with 16 points while Avery Hester followed with 15 points. This now puts the Hornets at 4-5 for total season play and 1-1 in conference play. The Hornets will face the (3-4) Arkoma Mustangs for tonight’s game. Head Coach, Broc Adams, says of the match-up, “It should be a good game against Arkoma. They are athletic and can shoot. I think we match-up well with them. We are just looking to continue building off of the confidence of last Tuesday’s game and get better one game at a time.”

The (3-6) Sr High Lady Hornets fell short against the Hector Lady Wildcats 41-36. This now puts the Lady Hornets at 0-2 in conference play. Kayla Richardson and Audrie Chaney secured 7 points each for their team. The girls are excited and ready for tonight’s match against the (1-4) Arkoma Lady Mustangs. Head Coach, Claude Foster, explains what’s in store for the Lady Hornets, “The ladies from Arkoma will be the biggest team we have faced this year in terms of size. Three of the players are right around 6 foot tall. We will have to be able to defend against this and consistently score as well. Tonight will be a big test for us.”

The Sr High Hornets will travel to Arkoma to play the Mustangs tonight December 13th at 6 pm.
