Show God’s Love To The World Around You
John 13:35 “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
Living in the Bible belt, it would seem everyone you talk to is a Christian, a follower of Jesus Christ. If this is true, and if the world will know us by our love, then there should be a lot more love in our community. Don’t misunderstand me. There is no place I would rather raise my family and live my life, yet I feel that there has been a change taking place. Every time I turn around, someone is angry about one subject or another.
With social media platforms, people want to voice their anger and discuss over the issue of the day. We walk around ready to be offended and give someone a piece of our mind and we even take pride in this attitude. When we go to sporting events or drive down the road, it’s like we’re ready to explode at those around us. Our world has become one angry moment after another, from one bad mood to all out frustration.
1 Corinthians 13:4-5 “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self -seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrong.”
If we, who call ourselves Christians, are to be living by the word of God and following Jesus’ example, I would say we need to stop being so easily offended and angered.
James 1:19-20 “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.”
I challenge you next time you’re cut off in traffic or offended by a post on social media, be quick to forgive. Show God’s love to the world around you. Next time, it may be you who needs to be forgiven.
