From the Desk of the Hartford Mayor

Here we are in February with good news to report. For the first time in many years there is a new home being built here in Hartford. The new construction is taking place on the corner of 5th and Holly with another one hopefully to be built later this summer. These houses are being built by Bob Ellison and contracted by KAST Construction, owned by Keith Dedmon.

We are still pushing for people to clean up their property and the majority of the citizens are working hard to comply. There are some holdouts that don’t seem to care about the city or its appearance. So we will keep writing tickets and moving forward.

In January we mailed out the letters for city business permits and the response has been wonderful. Most city business owners and area contractors realize what a bargain it is. The biggest advantage is going to be for the citizens of Hartford. If you have a person or company contact you about doing work on your house or property ask them if they have a permit to do business in our city. If they say they do, then you can call city hall and we will be able to tell you who they are, where they are based and if they are properly insured. Recently one of our citizens was taken advantage of by one of these fly by night contractors. Please remember that legitimate contractors do not need money up front.

Lets keep moving forward and turn our city around. Lets make it a place we can all be proud of. We also have a new slogan for our city. Just look south down Broadway and see the mountain. “Hartford, a city with a view!”
