Daniel Benton McCutchen, 78, of Fort Smith, AR died on Monday, January 8th, 2018 at Sparks Regional Medical Centerafter a long battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Born in Fort Smith, AR to Dr. Hubert and Dellan McCutchen. He graduated from Mansfield High School and ultimately completed a degree in Pharmacy from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, AR.
Prior to settling into his pharmacy career, Dan was a construction worker, a line worker at a tuna cannery, a truck driver, a Marine Corps reservist and an oil field worker in West Virginia and Oman.
Dan’s favorite work in his younger years was as a pilot. He flew converted World War II bombers for Dothan Aviation for a fire ant elimination program. He also flew converted bombers for Hawkins and Powers fighting forest fires inAlaska and North Carolina.
Dan enjoyed reading science fiction novels and watching science fiction shows in his spare time. He also enjoyed classic cars, woodworking, gardening, board games, card games and chess. Dan pursued life with great fearlessness, enthusiasm and humor.
Dan is survived by his wife Virginia (Ginger) of 50 years, son Quentin, daughter Maurin, brother Joe and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Martin Funeral home in Mansfield, AR on Thursday, January 11th.
The funeral service for Dan will be at Cavanaugh United Methodist Church in Fort Smith, AR on Friday, January 12th from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. His cremains will be buried at Pleasant Grove cemetery in Abbott, AR at a later date.
