The Waldron Bulldogs boys and girls golf team is teed up and ready to go. Having added five freshmen to their team this year, the Bulldogs are going to prove that age is just a number.
This season, where the girls may lack in numbers, they make up for in tenacity, stamina and true grit. The girls team consist of seniors Rena Owens and Madison Patrick. And junior Kaylin Watson, who qualified for the state tournament last September. While other kids their age spent the summer laying around, the girls were hard at work improving their game.
Golf coach Josh Atchley shared his thoughts about the girls team “If we can put together outings where we all play to the best of our abilities and show what we are capable of, then we should be in the hunt for a state tournament appearance as a team.”
The boys team combines the perfect blend of experience and youth. Returning as seniors are Brody Jones, Drew Dozier, Mason Cox, Tyler Owens and Mason Day. Sophomores are Jaden Hutchens and Jesse Dees. And joining the squad are freshmen Lane Metcalf, Drew Owens, Black Owens, Lane Tallmadge and Camden Holcomb.
“The boy’s team needs the upperclassmen to lead and the underclassmen to be big time contributors for us to be successful.” states Coach Atchley “I am looking forward to a successful season for Bulldog golf.”
The Bulldogs, who host their tournaments at the Waldron Country Club, were rained out of their August 8th opener. But a little rain is not going to deter the Bulldogs. Their next match will be August 15th in Booneville at 3:30pm. Schedule to follow at later date.
