Lavaca is coming off of a big win against 3A Two Rivers in a game where everything was clicking. Lavaca plays a tough non-conference schedule to prepare for conference play. After 3 games Lavaca is only 1-2 but that really doesn’t tell the story. Injuries, and getting accustomed to new assignments were the story of the first two games of the season, but the Arrows ended their non-conference schedule by annihilating the Gators on their field. This game the offense moved the ball at will and the defense flew all over the field with bone crushing hits frustrating the Gators all night.
Lavaca has a very strong defense which is led by Trevon (T-man ) Moore. T-man leads the conference in tackles with 30, 4 of those being tackles for loss. Also, Lavaca has 3 of the top 4 Sack leaders in conference, Jake Noble has 3, Tyler Armistead has 2, and Tucker Marshall also has 2.
Offensively, Tyler Armistead is number 3 in conference in rushing yards with 255 yards averaging 6.9 yards per carry. As a team the Arrows are averaging 6.4 yards per carry. With the return of quarterback Jimmy Hall Lavaca becomes a well rounded and balanced attack.
I caught up with Coach Schlinker this week and he had this to say about this weeks game, “Our guys are looking good. Been a hot week and we have battled through it. Our effort has been good. I think our guys are ready to prove themselves as conference play starts.” I asked him what strengths Westside brings and how can we combat them. “Well, they are huge up front. We have to play with great pad level. Also, they do a good job of working different motions to try to get you out of position. We have to play ‘assignment football’ on both sides of the ball.”
Arrows take on the Rebel’s at 7:00 in Coal Hill. Come out and support your Golden Arrow football team.
As Always,
