Johnson and his son reunited following deployment. Up until this time, his son had only seen Johnson on a screen via FaceTime.

This month’s Veteran Salute is to Zach Johnson, a U.S. Air Force veteran serving two decades.

Johnson, the son of Dennis and Alice Johnson, graduated from Van Buren High School in 1994. He also attended Ottawa University in Kansas on a football scholarship. He and his wife Angela have three children, Trystan, Connor, and Jordyn.

In his 20 year career in the U.S. Air Force, Johnson was deployed overseas to Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005, Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan, in 2010 and 2012. He served as an aircraft electrician, working on A-10 Warthogs and F16 Falcons.

Since 2001, Johnson, 43, has worked for Sebastian County. Three years ago, Johnson was elected to serve as the Sebastian County Assessor.

We thank you Zach Johnson for your years of military service and for the work you continue to do for your fellow veterans and civilian neighbors.
