3/4 Grade Tigers and Hornets Ready For Round 3

By Megan Hecox

It seems almost like a Heavyweight Boxing match between two top-tier Little League Teams. The Mansfield Tigers and the Hackett Hornets 3/4 grade teams will face off again for the 3rd time this season. But this time, there’s Championship Gold on the line. Both teams hold a win over each other and are dead even in everything pertaining to the game of Football. The Tigers beat the Hornets at the beginning of the season in a practice game while the Hornets beat the Tigers in conference play.

Hackett defeated the Cedarville Pirates last Saturday 16-8 in a game that consisted of 5 overtimes. The Hornets gave it their all to overcome everything that Cedarville threw at them. Now, to keep their undefeated season intact and win the WCFL Championship, the Hornets 3/4 grade squad must face a familiar foe……the Mansfield Tigers.

Hackett Hornets Coach Nick Holbert said “We had a hard fight Saturday night. It was a defensive game all night long. The game was tied at the end of the 4th quarter 0-0. Both teams were very cold and tired. Our kids never gave up and they fought through 5 OTs to finally pull ahead and win the game. We are extremely excited to be in the first WCFL Championship game. We will meet up with Mansfield again for the third time this season. We are 1-1 against Mansfield this year and I expect it to be a hard fought game to the end.”

Manfield gained closure against JC Westside last Saturday night when they dominated the Rebels 34-6. The Tigers tied against JC Westside in the middle of the season and were hungry to show that they were not going to tolerate the same outcome again. The last piece left to conquer in the Tigers puzzle is Hackett. The Hornets beat the Tigers on Homecoming this year giving the Tigers their only loss of the season. Now the Tigers get to have the opportunity for redemption against Hackett this Saturday and take home the WCFL Championship.

Mansfield Tiger Head Coach David Moore said “Our kids had one thing on their mind last Saturday and that was finishing the job against JC Westside. They did that and closed the door on the Rebels. We moved the ball extremely well and defensively our kids stepped up and played great football. We are very excited to get to play in the WCFL Championship this weekend. We are looking forward to getting a shot at Hackett. Our kids are more than ready and look forward to taking on the Hornets for the Championship.”

Mansfield and Hackett will travel to JC Westside to play each other at 3:00 pm for the WCFL Championship. The teams have waited all season long to get this chance again. They have proven they are the two best teams in the league. Mansfield vs Hackett. Two dominating forces with one goal in mind. To be Champions.
